Welcome to this introductory class to yin yoga. Yin yoga is a slow-paced, calm style of yoga where you get time to explore the sensations in your own body. It can be a good complement to other physical activities such as running or other more dynamic yoga styles. Yin yoga is great for those who feel particularly stiff. This introductory session gives you a chance to try yin yoga without committing to any course, however, should you feel like continuing all new participants receive a 15% discount on the next autumn course starting on 6/9 (more info here). Everyone is welcome regardless of experience!
In yin yoga you stay in simple seated or lying postures for a long time (2-3 minutes to begin with, 5-10 minutes when you have more experience), turn your attention inward and scan your own body for any tension, while trying to relax by using your breath. In doing this you stimulate and stretch the connective tissues which keep all muscles and organs together, while at the same time you learn to cultivate tranquility and awareness. The important thing is not how the postures look, but rather how you feel inside. The class ends with 10-15 minutes of partially guided meditation.
