NEWSLETTER LATE SUMMER/START AUTUMN 2025
We hope you had a lovely summer with a chance to recover and to replenish your vitamin D reserves somewhat. A few of us had wonderful weeks with lots of sun and warmth at our annual yoga retreat on the island of Kadermo in the Finnish archipelago. Lying on the jetty or in the hammock between yoga classes with only the wind rustling in the trees and the sound of small waves hitting the shore, was very therapeutic.
During the holidays, the shala floor has been refurbished following the damage it suffered from the water leak in May. Unfortunately, due to it being holiday season, there wasn’t enough time to also replace the ceiling. This will have to wait until later in the year. We ask for your continued patience and understanding as these are things beyond our control. On a positive note, we'll receive new furniture and curtains in week 33 and the construction work on the roof is to be finished by the end of August, which means that the noise and dust from there will come to an end.
The shala reopened on 6th August, morning mysore classes and the summer schedule run until the end of the month. One can also still register for our summer courses that start the second week of August (see here). On Sunday 31st August we hold an open house to prepare for the autumn semester, and from September onwards the autumn schedule applies. In the autumn there are some important changes happening at the shala which you can read more about in this newsletter. If you continue reading you will also get all the information about upcoming events, courses and workshops that we offer in the coming months.
THE AUTUMN SCHEDULE & CHANGES
The autumn schedule starts on 1st September and our evening courses/classes start in the following weeks. You can always see an overview of the most current schedule here. To see all temporary schedule changes, also scroll down to the bottom of the page. The page is updated regularly, so please visit it regularly. Please remember that we pause the morning mysore on new and full moon days and that we have guided Primary series class instead of morning mysore one Sunday a month. The next session is on Sunday 14th September. After the guided class we meet fort tea&talk where we have breakfast and discuss a yoga related topic.
This autumn there are some important changes to the schedule. I, Isabella, will be teaching a bit less as I am returning to studies at university. I have been admitted to a Master's program in Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University. It is a two-year, interdisciplinary program, that I hope to combine with my previous Master in Political Science and all the work I have done in yoga and health for the past 17 years. The studies are full-time and the lectures are given on site (in Malmö) with mandatory attendance, which means that I can no longer teach every morning of the week. I will do my best to be there as much as possible, but Helena will fill in for me the days that I have early lectures. However, as the course schedule at university changes every month we have to be flexible in terms of who teaches morning mysore. I am also handing over the Ashtanga beginners’/foundation L1 course to Katie and Viktor will take Helena's Ashtanga foundation L2 course. The course in Yoga for Stress Reduction will take a different shape from September and will be taught on Sundays once a month. We will do our best to keep the teaching and everything flowing smoothly and we hope to see you on the yoga mat as usual.
OPEN HOUSE 31/8
We launch the autumn semester with an open house on Sunday 31st August. The day starts with a regular morning mysore class for our current members and after class we open the doors to the public. There will be fika and free trial classes as well as a question and answer (Q&A) session. Special offers will be available on the day (only). Bring your family, invite friends and acquaintances and come socialize with us at the shala. More about the open house and the schedule for the day can be found here. Registration for the “trial” classes is required as spaces are limited.
AUTUMN COURSES
The autumn semester is short and that’s why this year, we have chosen to run most of our courses for 10-weeks starting from mid-September. The course in Yoga for stress reduction also changes into a shorter version that takes place once a month instead of an a weekly basis.

CONSTRUCTION-WORKS AT VÄRNHEMSTORGET
The laying of new pipes and the upgrading of Värnhemstorget, as well as the construction of new bus stops is the reason why there’s so much scaffolding around the whole square outside the shala building. It can be a hassle to get to the shala due to all the fences and there are fewer parking spaces available too. If you have trouble finding the shala, please contact us. This also applies if you haven't been to the shala for a while. Sometimes we change the door code.
The work at Värnhem is expected to continue throughout the autumn and run into 2026. More information about the reconstruction of Värnhemstorget is available on the Malmö city website. Also note that some bus stops have been temporarily moved and that Skånetrafiken has redesigned the bus network in Malmö.
That's all for now; later this autumn we’ll distribute a newsletter with information about our annual Advent brunch, the Christmas/New Year's schedule and more. As it's a long time until then, we ask you to stay updated between newsletters via the website and our social media (links above). You’re welcome to contact us with questions or requests/ideas for workshops and events, but please do so in good time. Keep in mind that we do not read/reply to emails outside office hours or on weekends. The response time may also be longer than usual this autumn when I, Isabella, am studying.
A friendly reminder – “Yoga is not an external workout, rather a "work-in", an internal journey.” Welcome to explore it with us.
