NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2022

| Isabella Nitschke

Happy New Year to all our practitioners, we hope you had a peaceful holiday season whether you celebrate Christmas/New Year or not. During the week between Christmas and New Year we had a very successful workshop at the shala with guest teacher Matt Ryan from England. It was incredibly inspiring and Matt generously shared his limitless energy and experiences of Ashtanga yoga and Zen meditation. Thanks to Matt and to everyone who participated and contributed to the great atmosphere. If you missed Matt, you have a chance to catch up with him later this year as there are already plans for a new guest appearance at some point in 2022. Please also check out our Instagram account for photos from the workshop.

COVID-19 – RULES & TEACHING

Just in time for Christmas, the new/old Covid-19 restrictions were reintroduced, which means, among other things, that we are obliged to limit the number of participants in the shala. Our classes continue as usual, but for this to work practically and for everyone's safety and well-being, we ask you to read through and follow the current shala rules (click on the link). With the increasing infection rates, we are also reintroducing the opportunity to join our Mysore classes online. From mid-January practitioners who cannot make it to the shala have the option to join a live broadcast from the Mysore room via Zoom. If you have monthly/season card you can use that but we also offer a special monthly online membership. A link to the virtual shala will be distributed once a week to those who’ve signed up per email (you need to register no later than Saturday mornings to receive the link). Contact us if you’re interested or have questions.

SCHEDULE & COURSES

The spring schedule runs from 10/1 and can be consulted here. On the bottom of the page you also find information about temporary changes, led classes, cover teachers etc. As per custom the spring schedule includes new foundation (beginners) and level 2 courses that start in January and March. Due to the great demand last autumn, we have increased the number of courses but the number of participants will be limited in order to follow the rules of the pandemic. Check here for more info.

Yin yoga and meditation with Miho continues in February as a course and drop-in class. Please note that monthly/klipp card holders can participate, but everyone has to register in advance via Medborgarskolan so that we can keep track on the number of participants. Last but not least, Friday fun returns with different themes, first out how to manage the “Head stand” on 21/1. A list and details of this spring's special courses and workshops are found here

GUEST WORKSHOPS

In the coming months, we have the pleasure of welcoming two reputable guest teachers to Malmö. First out is:

- MÅNS BROO, FD from Turku University in Finland, who will visit us on 12-13th February for a weekend workshop on the theme of the Bhagavad Gita. This is one of India's most important sacred scriptures, but also one of the central, early texts on yoga. The last time Måns visited our shala was at the start of 2020 when he taught a much appreciated weekend course on the Yoga Sutra. Read more about the weekend in February and sign up here (the course is held in Swedish).

- JOSEFIN WIKSTRÖM, founder of Trauma-adapted Yoga Sweden comes to Malmö on Saturday 26th March. Josefin will teach a full-day workshop with lectures and practical exercises from yoga and body-based methods as support for PTSD and mental health issues. The workshop is open to everyone, also if you don’t practice yoga but only work professionally with mental health, vulnerable groups, in the healthcare sector etc. Do not miss this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the healing properties of yoga. Read more about the day with Josefin here (the workshop is held in Swedish).

That's all for now - new courses and other events are added regularly on the website so in order not to miss anything interesting, we recommend that you visit our event or news page regularly. Also please stay updated by following us on social media (links in the menu above). If you are not a member of our private Facebook group, we recommend that you apply to get access to the latest news and updates at short notice. Keep in mind that if you have not visited the shala for a while, we may have changed the door code (the last time was mid-December). If you need the new code please get in touch well in advance of your planned visit to get the new one. Should you have any questions, you are of course welcome to email us.

See you on the yoga mat and please don't forget to wash your hands!
